- Time to be useful for once. So, let's do some book reviews.
- This could have been far sillier than what it was, but if you want over the top action, this is your book.
- A rare LN that's aimed at young teens instead of thirty-year old perverts, this is To Heart meets Haruhi Suzumiya, just without all the snark. The prose is sandpaper rough, and the characters are starting to get Flanderized, but the story is endearing.
- I've tried cultivvation xianxia before, but found the story game-derived and alien. This one is an all-around improvement that anchors each level in a physical action and ties each breakthrough to specific events. This is a more welcoming introduction to Chinese fantasy.
- Iron Wolves had a bit of mood whiplash with the rest of Galaxy's Edge. Still is good milSF action, still authentic, but the voice is jarringly different from the main series. However, the Order or the Centurion series will be an excellent introduction to its guest authors.
- Bone Dungeon has far more heart and goodwill than anyone has any right to expect from a Dungeon Master-inspired story. What could have been a gamers' ironic in-joke is instead something I'd freely hand to a nephew.
- A rare book where the wonderful Mary Sue has a reason for being so--if she isn't, she's fated to die for her selfishness. Still a bit of a burnout fantasy, but its strange these days to find a YA book that teaches that the key to happiness and fortune is in helping others
Sometimes the loveable loser is still just a loser. Pass.
